A gemstone is a precious or semi-precious mineral. The stones are cut
and polished and used to create jewelry. Gemstones are indentified by
gemologists. Diamonds, rubies, sapphires, pearls, opal and emeralds
are considered tp be precious stones. The value of the gemstone is
based on the color, cut, clarity and carat of the stone.
